Modulation of virulence factors of Staphylococcus aureus by nanostructured surfaces

چکیده

Investigating and understanding the response of microbes to various surfaces requires a versatile parametrisation surface, multiple assays that captures complexity biofilm structures. Here, Staphylococcus aureus viability, polysaccharide poly-N-acetylglucosamine, proteins on cell surface were analysed with agar plate- well plate-based formation assays. Biofilms grown set nanostructured polymeric surfaces, which thoroughly characterised for their chemistry topography. Surface hydrophobicity, summit density as peak valley structure found influence microbial viability exopolysaccharide abundance level in plate assay. In assay, chemical parameters had lesser but roughness caused by structures increased decreased expression. relating pathogenicity affected The profile these correlated clearly several parameters, especially fine assay lateral These results highlight necessity describing material different completely understand what specific features drive certain bacterial response.

Effects of Sub-Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations of Silver Nanoparticles on Some Virulence Factors of Staphylococcus aureus

ABSTRACT          Background and Objectives: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have physical and surface properties that could threaten human and environmental health. AgNPs are classified as ‘very toxic’ to eukaryotic organisms and are less toxic to bacteria. The aim of the present study was to study the effects of different sub-minimum inhi...

Staphylococcus aureus virulence factors and disease

The genus Staphylococcus is composed of Gram-positive bacteria with diameters of 0.5-1.5 μm, characterized by individual cocci that divide in more than one plane to form grape-like clusters [1]. These bacteria are non-motile, nonspore forming facultative anaerobes, featuring a complex nutritional requirement for growth [2-4], a low G+C content of DNA (in the range of 30-40 mol%) [5], a toleranc...

Modulation of Staphylococcus aureus spreading by water.

Staphylococcus aureus is known to spread rapidly and form giant colonies on the surface of soft agar and animal tissues by a process called colony spreading. So far, the mechanisms underlying spreading remain poorly understood. This study investigated the spreading phenomenon by culturing S. aureus and its mutant derivatives on Tryptic Soy Agarose (TSA) medium. We found that S. aureus extracts ...

Characterization of biofilm formation and virulence factors of Staphylococcus aureus isolates from paediatric patients in Tehran, Iran

Objective(s): Staphylococcus aureus can cause several infections. Its capability to form biofilm has been reported to be a vital property involved in the bacteria’s pathogenesis. Various genes contributing to biofilm formation have not yet been completely clarified. This study was designed to evaluate the factors influencing adherence and biofilm formation in S. aureus...

Modulation of virulence gene expression by cell wall active antibiotics in Staphylococcus aureus.

OBJECTIVES To investigate the effect of subinhibitory concentrations of cell wall active antibiotics on virulence gene expression and biofilm formation in Staphylococcus aureus Newman and in laboratory strains. METHODS Promoter regions of spa, lukE and agr RNAIII were cloned upstream of a modified luxABCDE reporter. Using disc diffusion assays, the effects of antibiotics were observed on gene...
